Kangaroo Ground Project

Ultracourts Aces Kangaroo Ground Tennis Court Project, Takes Home SAPIA Bronze

Ultracourts Tennis Court Builders recently added another feather to their cap, securing 3rd place in the “Construction Domestic Sports Courts” Acrylic category at the prestigious SAPIA Awards.

The award recognized their exceptional work on a challenging tennis court project in the hilly terrain of Kangaroo Ground, completed in February 2022.

The project, undertaken for a family with a highly-ranked junior tennis player son, demanded innovative solutions to overcome the site’s steep slopes and rocky soil composition. Ultracourts, responsible for the court’s construction, fencing, and lighting, collaborated with Matchpoint Systems for surfacing,

Premier Electrical for lighting installation, and California Sports Surfaces for the acrylic surface.

Overcoming Site Challenges

The project presented unique challenges: the extremely steep area required extensive excavation through soil, loose rocks, and solid bedrock.

The site’s limited footprint, further complicated by the need to avoid costly blasting, required careful planning to achieve a functional 33 x 16.5m tennis court.

Ultracourts tackled the excavation and consolidation with pad foot rollers.

Recognizing the need for expert engineering solutions to address potential settlement and slippage issues, they enlisted civil and structural engineers to design a robust support system and slab.

The engineers recommended screw piles over bored piers due to the depth, cost considerations, and the risk of cave-ins in the rocky terrain.

Illuminating Performance and Securing the Court

The lighting system, designed to deliver 350 Lux, featured a two-luminaire per pole configuration on Ingal Light Poles with 400-watt LED luminaires.

The court’s surface, California Sports Surfaces’ Rebound Ace “Synpave,” was further enhanced with CSS Moisture Seal Epoxy to ensure optimal adhesion and mitigate hydrostatic issues.

A 3m high chain mesh fence with a top rail and a 3m wide double gate was installed to secure the court and provide access for lighting maintenance, a necessity given the site’s challenging topography.

A Winning Combination of Expertise and Innovation

The Kangaroo Ground project showcases Ultracourts‘ ability to navigate complex site conditions and deliver a top-tier tennis court that meets the demands of high-level training.

Their collaboration with industry-leading partners and commitment to engineering excellence ensured the project’s success.

This SAPIA award is a well-deserved recognition of Ultracourts’ dedication to quality craftsmanship and innovation in sports court construction.
