Getting your tennis court ready for spring

As the winter chill eases and the daylight hours get longer, it’s a great time to get your tennis court ready for spring.

A well-maintained court not only extends the life of your court and prevents major maintenance down the line. It also enhances you’re playing experience. Here are some things you should do to get your tennis court ready for spring and beyond.

Start with an Inspection

It sounds obvious, but an inspection is the best way to start. Walk around the entire court, checking for cracks, low spots or damage caused by moisture or frost – that’s an important one in places like Victoria where weather can be an issue. Take note of areas that need repair to prevent further deterioration.

Clean

Sweep away leaves, branches and debris that no doubt collected over winter. You can use mild detergent and a soft brush for stains without resorting to harsh chemicals. For moss or algae, a gentle pressure wash may be a good idea.

Check Nets and Posts

Examine the net, making sure the net is free from holes or frayed edges, and is still properly tensioned. Lubricate and tighten posts if necessary and replace worn-out parts, ensuring stability.

Check Line Markings

If your lines markings are faded or peeling, get professionals like the team at Ultra Courts to freshen them up. Crisp and visible lines look professional and ensure accuracy in your game.

Evaluate the Fencing and Surroundings

Repair gates, secure loose sections and trim plant growth so it doesn’t encroach onto playing space.

Clean or Replace Accessories and Lighting

Ball baskets, benches and other accessories may need a clean or replacement. If you have lighting, replace blown or dimmed light bulbs.
