Teenagers In Aussie Tennis
Teenagers in Aussie tennis are on the rise.
Forget the big names you already know, it’s time to learn the names of the teenagers in Aussie tennis as they start making waves in the rankings.
With Australia set to host the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier, keep an eye on our teenagers in Aussie tennis, with 18-year-old Maya Joint recently showing off her magical skills on the court putting her in prime position to make her Cup debut in Brisbane.
Moving up the rankings
For the first time since 2019, four Australian women are ranked inside the world’s top 100. Teen sensation Joint and seasoned pro Ajla Tomljanovic both broke into the elite group after strong performances in North America—Joint reaching the quarter-finals and Tomljanovic making the semi-finals at recent WTA events.
Tomljanovic managed to climb 18 spots to return to the top 100, while Joint cracked the milestone for the first time, becoming one of just two teenagers in the world’s top 100. They join Kimberly Birrell and Olivia Gadecki, marking a significant moment for Australian women in tennis. Daria Saville came incredibly close to making it five Aussie women in the top 100, falling just one set short. The last time we saw this many Aussie women in the top 100 was back in May 2019.

On court action
The Aussies will soon hit the court for the Billie Jean King Cup round-robin clash against Kazakhstan and Colombia. Team captain Sam Stosur now has an exciting pool of in-form players to choose from, including Joint. Born in Michigan to an Australian father, she’s proving to be one of the country’s most promising young talents and definitely one to watch!
Let’s hear it for the men
Not to be outshined by their fellow female players, our Aussie men are also showing good rankings in the top 100. Having peaked at a career-high ranking of six earlier this year, Alex “The Demon” de Minaur has slipped back to 10th, but still sits as Australia’s highest-ranked male.
