Ultracourts Tennis Court Builders continues its streak of excellence, clinching the 2024 SAPIA Award in the “Construction Domestic Sports Courts” Acrylic category for a remarkable private tennis court project in Portsea.
Completed in December 2022, this unique project showcased Ultracourts’ ability to overcome challenging site conditions and deliver a visually stunning and high-performance playing surface.
A Court Amidst the Dunes
Nestled amidst the picturesque sand dunes of Portsea, Victoria, the project site presented a formidable challenge: an extremely steep slope with a 20-meter height difference between the top and bottom of the block.
The tennis court itself was to be constructed atop a boat shed/garage/golf simulator on a fully suspended slab, adding another layer of complexity.
Precision and Collaboration
Ultracourts, responsible for court surfacing and soft netting, partnered with Fieldturf and Kings Sports to execute this ambitious project. Accessing the site was a logistical feat, requiring three cranes to lift all materials, including grass, sand, and posts, onto the building’s roof.
Meticulous coordination and collaboration between teams ensured smooth operations throughout the construction process.
Prioritizing Aesthetics and Performance
While tennis playability was crucial, the client emphasized the importance of aesthetics.
Ultracourts recommended Fieldturf’s “ProTennis” in Olive, a textured surface that seamlessly blends with the surrounding environment and the Sorrento Golf Club fairways visible from the elevated house and outdoor living areas.
To safeguard the fully waterproofed suspended slab, Ultracourts opted for a two-part glue instead of solvent-based adhesives, eliminating any potential reactions with the waterproofing coatings.
The court was finished with 100% green silica sand for optimal performance and visual appeal.
Seamless Integration and Security
The court’s perimeter was enclosed with full draw curtains, offering privacy and protection from the elements while maintaining the open feel of the coastal setting.
A Triumph of Expertise and Innovation
The Portsea tennis court project stands as a testament to Ultracourts’ ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver a world-class sporting facility that exceeds expectations. Their focus on both aesthetics and performance, combined with their collaborative approach and technical expertise, resulted in a truly exceptional court.
This well-deserved SAPIA Award further cements Ultracourts’ position as a leader in the sports court construction industry, inspiring confidence in their ability to transform any challenging site into a haven for sports enthusiasts.
