US Open Tennis

There’s nothing more action-packed than a US Open tennis match, especially if there’s an Aussie tennis star involved.

Here at Ultra Courts, we are super proud of our Aussie’s showcasing their talents through their US Open tennis matches, proving to the next generation that tennis is very much an amazing sport.

One of Australia’s biggest rising stars, Alex de Minaur produced some of his best hits against English veteran Dan Evans to set up an all-Australian match in the lead up to the US Open tennis quarter finals recently.

Aiming high for Australia

Alex de Minaur is certainly making aces in the tennis world. Despite arriving at Flushing Meadows under an injury cloud, which kept him out of the Olympics, de Minaur defeated Evans for the first time in four outings 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-0 6-0 in 2hr 48min at the US Open, setting up a match against fellow Aussie and Davis cup teammate Jordan Thompson. de Minaur also became the first Australian since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004 to reach the last 16 at all four majors in the same season.

What a match!

It started as a compelling battle between de Minaur and Evans, but after competing in the longest US Open match in 5 hours 35 minutes against Karen Khachanov earlier in the week, Evans showed signs of struggle as de Minaur’s strength took over. But the gracious Aussie had nothing but praise for his opponent.
“I think the first thing we should show is a lot of respect to Dan,” de Minaur said on court.
“He is the ultimate competitor. He could have easily pulled out. The body was obviously not feeling well, but he stayed out there and tried his best. I really appreciate it.”

From strength to strength

Showing that our Australian contingent have what it takes on the world tennis circuit, fellow Aussie’s Jordan Thompson and Alexei Popyrin also made it through to the fourth round.

In the midst of the best season of his career, Thompson reached the second week of a grand slam for just the second time in his career with a superb performance against Italian Matteo Arnaldi.

While not quite the result Australian Chris O’Connell was hoping for, the Sydneysider battled it out with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in one hour 53 minutes, going down 6-1 6-4 6-2. Having beaten Sinner before, chances are O’Connell will use this result to further strengthen his skills!
